Slipper for an 18th-century naval-themed ball: “Pantoufle à la Belle-Poule” is a ship-shaped shoe is inspired by events in 1778, when the French navy royally kicked some British butt. The French frigate La Belle Poule (the Beautiful Chicken) won a furious battle against the British squadron - who were at that time considered the superior maritime masters. The surprise triumph of La Belle Poule was therefore cause for much celebration amongst the French, who, besides themselves with jubilation, staged various Victory Balls, where attendees sported Naval-themed costumes à la Belle-Poule, alongside newly invented hairstyles and accessories.

The "Palm House Pantoufle" is inspired by the Great Palm House of London's Kew Gardens and Vienna's Palmenhaus Schönbrunn.
